Note To Self : Be Thankful

So tonight I was reminded how lucky I am. I was also reminded how much I actually take for granted.

I met a girl named Jo. Jo has an intellectual disability and a speech impediment. When she is nervous (for example, when she meets someone new) she stutters quite bad. I could see the frustration on her face as she couldn't get the words out. And then it hit me. I had never stopped to think about how lucky I am to not have a problem speaking, or a problem learning, or a problem developing my skills.

My husband suffers from sleep apnea, where his brain tells him to stop breathing more than 100 times per hour while he sleeps. My sister has crones disease which makes her sick every day of her life. She can't leave home without worrying about being sick while she is out.

And, here I am whinging about a sore back, or a sore throat. Big picture, there isn't anything life threatening wrong with me. I need to stop taking for granted the things I should be thankful for...

Ability to breathe. A heartbeat. Two legs to walk, that work well. Two functioning hands. A tongue that I use to speak properly. Eyes to see our beautiful world through. A brain to learn, understand and grow. These are things I take for granted. Things I never think about.

But right now, as I take in a breath, and look at my sleeping gorgeous husband, I'm thankful.
